MONROE, Wis. — The Monroe Fire Department remains in shock this morning after losing one of its own in the line of duty Tuesday.
David Rufer, 42, collapsed during a routine training exercise around 8 p.m. at the north industrial park, according to Monroe Fire Chief Daryl Rausch. Rufer later died at Monroe Clinic.
Rausch said firefighters are trying to come to grips with Rufer’s death and that counseling is available and will remain available for as long as needed.
