HOLDEN, Mass. — Holden Emergency Management has been awarded a grant for Emergency Preparedness in the amount of $8,435.

Fire Chief Jack Chandler said the department plans to use the money to purchase a portable AM radio notification system. This system was tested during the fireworks and Holden Days this past August to announce parking and traffic issues.

The system takes a recorded message from the department and plays it repeatedly over AM 1670. Signs are put up in advising people to tune into that station on their car radios to hear the message. In addition, Chandler said he plans to educate the citizens in town to tune to AM 1670 in the event of an emergency for more information.
