LONG BEACH, Calif. — An airline is offering free flights to firefighters who wish to attend the funeral of a firefighter who was fatally shot at a fire scene.

NBC Los Angeles reported that JetBlue will fly any firefighter from around the country to Long Beach up to three days before and three days after the funeral service for Long Beach Fire Capt. David Rosa.

Capt. Rosa was fatally shot Monday while responding to an explosion at a senior living complex.

“We are honored to help now just as we have in the past,” JetBlue said. “We have a long history of supporting public service professionals in our hometown of New York as well as the many other places JetBlue crewmembers live and work.”

Firefighters who wish to take advantage of the offer can call 1-800-JetBlue (538-2583) and ask for “Fallen Officer Booking” and say that you are going to the funeral for Capt. David Rosa.

You will also need to have the following information handy:

  • Fire Department name and local number
  • Badge number
  • Fire Department email

Two members from a fire department will be able to fly for free.

The memorial service will take place on July 3 at 10 a.m. at the Long Beach Arena.
