WORCESTER, Mass. —Two breweries teamed up to create a beer that will honor a fallen firefighter and raise money for the daughter he left behind.
CBS Boston reported that Wormtown Brewery and Wachusett Brewing Company together collaborated to bring a new beer, “Worcester’s Bravest,” to the public in honor of Christopher Roy, as well as the other firefighters in the city.
Roy died in December while battling an apartment blaze. His 9-year-old daughter, Ava, will receive the profits made from the beer.
TJ Morse of Wachusett Brewing Company said the breweries wanted to help as soon as they heard about Roy’s death.
“When we heard about the tragedy in Worcester and Christopher Roy, we had a normal reaction like most people. What can we do?” he said.
David Fields of Wormtown Brewery agreed.
“We’re all Worcester guys. We just felt like we had to give back,” he said.
Morse added that the beer is a “nice Belgian style, wit beer … super tasty, light, easy to drink.”
The breweries said they are expecting to raise around $40,000 for the Ava Roy Foundation through the beer, which will be available at both locations around Super Bowl time.
