Body of N.Y. firefighter found inside house fire

The body found in a fire in Annsville has been identified as a McConnellsville firefighter

ANNSVILLE, N.Y. — A man found dead inside a house after a fire has been identified as a 54-year-old firefighter who lived there, Oneida County sheriff’s deputies said.

The remains of Corey M. Michik, of Oneida, was discovered in his home by emergency crews, they said.

Police were called around 2:15 p.m. Thursday to the home on Mill Road in the town of Annsville, Syracuse.com | The Post-Standard reported earlier.

The home was engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived, deputies said.

A neighbor called in the fire after seeing smoke coming from the single-story home, they said.

Michik was most recently a member of the McConnellsville Fire Department, according to his obituary.

McConnellsville happened to be one of the departments responding to the fire at Michik’s home, deputies said in a news release. The department shared Michik,’s obituary on their Facebook with the caption “RIP brother...We have it from here.”

He was also a former member of the Taberg Fire Department and New London Fire Department. He is survived by his mother, two sisters and several nieces, nephews and cousins, the obituary said. His funeral is scheduled to be on March 12, at 6 p.m. in Camden.
