FDNY firefighter who leapt from window to escape fatal fire leaves hospital

Fellow firefighters applauded for Robert Velazquez, who has two broken arms

BROOKLYN, N.Y. — An FDNY firefighter who leapt from a window to escape the fire that killed fellow firefighter Timothy Klein and a 21-year-old man went home from the hospital on Tuesday.

According to the New York Post, more than 100 FDNY members applauded as Robert Velazquez, who suffered two broken arms, was wheeled out of Brookdale University Hospital Medical Center.

“His wife never left his side in the ICU,” a nurse said.

Two other firefighters also jumped from second-story windows.
