Video: Fire marshal sets world record for fire patches

The dollar value of the collection might be as much as $30,000, but he said he’s more interested in its place in history

ALBANY, Ore. — Albany Deputy Fire Marshal Bob Brooks, 54, has collected 8,158 fire department patches, according to a count completed recently at the Linn Fair & Expo Center — setting the world record for the Largest collection of fire patches.

The current Guinness world record of 4,513 patches was set by Juan Carlos Sanchez Cachero, a firefighter in Madrid, Spain, in 1992.

Mayor Sharon Konopa, Police Chief Ed Boyd and professional speaker Howard Baker Jr. acted as judges and spent about two hours counting the patches and recorded the official count of 8,158.
