CASTLE HAYNE, N.C. - VisionAIR®, a leading provider of public safety and criminal justice software, held its 16th Annual Users’ Conference October 23-27 at the Hilton Wilmington Riverside in North Carolina. Public safety professionals from twenty-three states across the nation traveled to Wilmington, NC to participate in the conference by attending a series of educational sessions that enhance operational efficiency and support their mission of protecting and securing their communities. The conference was attended by 290 people from 155 departments along with VisionAIR employees.
Twenty-six vendors participated in VisionAIR’s 2005 Users’ Conference. Sponsors included Microsoft, Cingular Wireless, Microwave Data Systems (MDS), Tropos Networks, Stratus Technologies, GIS Data Resources (GDR), and Lockheed Martin.
The keynote address was presented by Dr. Bobby Smith, a former Louisiana State Trooper, who was permanently blinded by a drug dealer during a routine traffic stop in 1986. Attendees gained insight to the importance of dealing with traumatic events.
Chief Deputy Philip Byers from the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office (NC) spoke on the topic of grant funding. Microsoft’s Tom Looney, Justice and Public Safety Industry Manager, addressed the conference attendees in regards to Microsoft’s involvement in public safety and its support of improved communication through data sharing. IJIS Executive Director Paul Wormeli also presented valuable information on the importance of interoperability and advances made in the data sharing initiative.
To close the conference, VisionAIR held an open house at its headquarters on Thursday afternoon. Tours of the facility were provided as well as a southern barbeque lunch for attendees and employees.
VisionAIR’s 17th Annual Users’ Conference is scheduled for November 5-9, 2006 at the Hilton Wilmington Riverside.
