2017 Hooley™ Awards winners announced at ImageTrend Connect

LAKEVILLE, Minn. — ImageTrend, Inc. announced the winners of the 2017 Hooley™ Awards. Nominees were narrowed down to a field of nine finalists – three in each of three categories – from which the winners were selected by a panel of third-party judges. Judges cast votes via secret ballot for each category. ImageTrend extends congratulations to the nominees, finalists and winners of the Third Annual Hooley Awards. Innovation Award
To recognize those who are serving in a new or innovative way to meet the needs of their organization, including developing programs or solutions to benefit providers, administrators, or the community.

Winner: Michael Poynter – Kentucky Board of Emergency Medical Services (KBEMS) Michael Poynter
Under the leadership of Michael Poynter, Kentucky Board of Emergency Medical Services has continuously been on the forefront of EMS data collection. With nearly all of the state’s EMS agencies reporting, KBEMS switched focus to data accessibility for care providers and external stakeholder research. Data sharing agreements were formalized with the Kentucky Injury Prevention and Research Center and the Kentucky Department for Public Health, and a partnership with the Kentucky Health Information Exchange will make pre-hospital records available throughout the patient’s continuum of care.

Service Award
Considers how data is being used to further the safety of their community or reach community goals, and acknowledges the fact that data is boundless and can be used in any number of ways for the benefit of society.

Winner: Chad Pore – Butler County EMS, Kansas. Chad Pore
A high number of ambulance crashes occur each year, and many involve the use of emergency lights and sirens. Chad Pore utilized elements in the run form to create reports that detail such usage, which led to changes in Butler County EMS’s response policy. Chad has since led the department to a decrease of lights and sirens use by over 51% for 911 calls in 2016; and in 2017, year-to-date Butler County EMS is at 61.5% percent no lights and sirens when responding to 911 calls.

New Frontier Award
To recognize those that are going above and beyond the call of duty, and breaking new ground or serving in a humanitarian way.

Winner: Chip Cooper & Todd Donovan – New Hampshire Department of Health Chip Cooper & Todd Donovan
New Hampshire has been hit hard by the opioid crisis. Using ImageTrend’s Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) tool and Report Writer, the New Hampshire Department of Health was able to analyze the opioid epidemic and treatment usage. Through analyzing the incidents and treatment usage, Chip Cooper and Todd Donovan were able to show how many people lived due to EMS intervention during an overdose. Additionally, Todd developed RODS (Revised OverDose Score) to prove how effective EMS is at saving lives during an opioid induced episode.

Judges were chosen as subject matter experts who are well-versed in the fields represented by nominees. This five-person panel voted for the winner in each category.
