LAKEVILLE, Minn. — ImageTrend, Inc. congratulates two of its state clients on recent awards at the NASEMSO (National Association of State EMS Officials) 2019 Annual Meeting abstract competition. A total of 16 abstracts were submitted for the competition, with five receiving awards from the judges. The State of Nebraska received 2nd place while the State of New Jersey received honorable mention. Two members of ImageTrend’s Clinical & Research Services team were cited as co-authors: Epidemiologist Morgan K. Anderson and Clinical Specialist Douglas Butler, Jr.

The Nebraska abstract titled “Refusals of Care for EMS Injury-related Incidents in Nebraska: Characteristics and Correlates” considered data for patients that refused either care and/or transportation by emergency medical services when there was a suspected injury. Results found there were decreased odds of refusing care for incidents occurring in wilderness/rural areas, individuals ≥ 46 years old, if the suspected injury was located in the pelvic region, if injury occurred during January/February, and was between 6:00 a.m. and 11:59 a.m.

The New Jersey abstract titled “Pre-hospital Refusal of Treatment or Transport: Characteristics for New Jersey Naloxone Administration Incidents” examined data related to patients that had received naloxone, but also refused additional care and/or transportation by emergency medical services. Results found there were increased odds of EMS refusals for incidents occurring in large fringe metropolitan areas (suburbs) and small metropolitan areas, patients between the ages of 26-45, and patients in counties that are less affluent (poverty rate of 35.5% or more).

“We are proud to be part of collaborative efforts such as this and are happy to have been a part of something that benefits the industry. It is great to see the research recognized,” stated Anderson.

ImageTrend encourages research as a way to make good use of data that are collected in patient care and observations of populations.
