Extrication may be a very dynamic field, with the latest techniques for getting into the most recent models of automobiles constantly changing, but one thing fire and rescue units are always in need of is spread clearance. The AMKUS 30CRT, the successor to the established AMKUS-30CX, is designed exactly for that purpose. While both spreaders are able to provide 32 inches of spread in their basic configuration, the 30CRT comes with removable tips that can be replaced with extender tips to create 40 inches of space.

“The 30CRT incorporates a push-button single release tip to put on an extended reach tip which adds an additional eight inches,” National Sales Manager Chuck Sheaffer said. “The removable tip will also allow for different tip designs in the future.”

The 30CRT offers a combination of the flexibility of the widely popular AMK-24 spreader with the spread distance of the 30CX. The extended reach tip for the 30CRT is uniquely constructed to eliminate the loss of power during extrication.

“As the new technique of tunneling through the trunk of a vehicle is becoming more popular, that extended reach is absolutely essential,” Sheaffer said.

For small to medium agencies, a large dedicated spreader is an essential tool, as retired fire service lieutenant Ron Shaw outlined previously on FireRescue1. The 30CRT weights 48 pounds, is 30.1 inches in length and 12 in width. The maximum operating pressure is 10,500 psi, standard on all of AMKUS’ spreaders.

AMKUS offers the extended tips which can be viewed on their website. The AMK-30CRT is sold as a completely new tool or also as an upgrade for owners of a 30CX. The upgrade includes new arms and tips at a discounted price. Extended reach tips are also available as optional equipment for both spreaders. AMKUS also offers chain packages for spreaders.
