Waubridge Specialty Fabrics Unveils New Spark and Flame Protective Barrier at IDEA10 Conference & Expo

Pavenex® Fabrics Protect From Arc Flash, Weld Spatter, Extreme Heat and Flame

RICHMOND, Va. – Waubridge Specialty Fabrics, LLC (Waubridge) will showcase Pavenex®, a new stitch-bonded, non-woven performance fabric that provides superior, direct contact protection from spark, weld spatter, arc flash and extreme heat and flame, at the IDEA10 International Engineered Fabrics Conference and Expo, April 27-29, 2010 in Miami Beach, Fla. Highly durable and abrasion resistant, Pavenex is used as an internal or external barrier for a variety of industrial, chemical and welding protective gear and garments, including gloves, spats, torch shields, aprons, coats, blankets, curtains, pants and shirts.

Pavenex is an inherently flame-resistant blend of carbon-based fibers absent of any chemical treatments commonly used in today’s thermal barriers. With a thermal protective performance (TPP) of 20-30 calories/cm2, Pavenex fabric is appropriate for use in applications that require up to 2200 degrees Fahrenheit and continuous exposure of 600 degrees Fahrenheit. With a measured thermal conductivity of 0.047 to 0.060 W/mK, Pavenex’s insulating performance matches that of expanded polystyrene, (Styrofoam).

“In addition to the performance attributes of Pavenex, the fabric is lightweight, breathable and very flexible,” said Matt Smith, business development director at Waubridge. “The unique stitch bonding construction provides a much higher level of durability not found in traditional non-woven fabrics. As a result, it offers manufacturers a superior alternative to develop and market new protective garments versus the more traditional leather, wool, fiberglass and chemically treated protective materials on the market today.”

In addition to Pavenex, Waubridge also offers a family of fabrics and products under the Kovenex® brand. Used in a host of applications, Kovenex is a superior cut-, tear- and flame-resistant fabric that protects against extreme heat and sharp products. Kovenex has been used by firefighters and other first responders for years in a number of products, including the Kovenex Rapid Response Blanket, and in the Dragon Fire gloves by Fireman’s Shield and Southcombe’s Firemaster® Ultra and Firemaster® 4 gloves. In addition, Waubridge offers the Kovenex Occupational Safety Blanket, designed specifically for use in industrial workplaces such as plants, foundries, mills and other facilities in which fire-related incidents could occur.

Waubridge Specialty Fabrics will be exhibiting at booth number 1560.
