Lucas Oil Stadium display showcases industry’s widest array of custom fire apparatus

APPLETON, Wis. – Pierce Manufacturing, an Oshkosh Corporation (NYSE:OSK) company, today presented its industry-leading lineup of custom fire and emergency vehicles at the Fire Department Instructors Conference (FDIC) in Indianapolis, Ind. Pierce marked its 30th year of building custom chassis with a display of nine Pierce apparatus in Lucas Oil Stadium, including three Pierce® Dash® CF models and a total of six unique custom chassis.

“During Pierce’s 99 year history, we’ve built over 51,000 fire trucks and we have 30 years of custom chassis experience,” said Jim Johnson, Oshkosh Corporation executive vice president and president, Fire & Emergency. “That accumulated knowledge enhances every truck we build. Meeting the needs of firefighters is Pierce’s number one priority, and this is the guiding principal in all that we do – from product innovation to customer service.”

Front and center in the display are three of Pierce’s state-of-the-art Dash CF vehicles. They include a medium block PUC pumper, a big block PUC pumper featuring the Pierce exclusive Detroit DD13 500 hp engine and a 105-ft PUC aerial ladder. The Dash CF, first introduced in 2011, features an innovative tilting cab forward design that repositions the engine rearward and down low between the frame rails, resulting in a wide-open interior configuration solving the space problem for the driver and officer.

A new Velocity™ PUC pumper, featuring a more open interior with improved visibility and an advanced HVAC system – is shown with permission of the Clayton Winchester Fire Department of Clayton, Wis.

A quint configuration, with a 75-ft heavy-duty PUC ladder and single rear axle, built on an Impel™ chassis, is on display courtesy of the Watauga Fire Department of Watauga, Tex. A non-walk-in, heavy-duty PUC rescue vehicle, built on the Arrow XT™ chassis, is on display courtesy of the Manalapan Fire District #1 of Manalapan, NJ.

Also on display is a 95-ft mid-mount aerial platform built on the Pierce Quantum® chassis, shown courtesy of the City of Tampa Fire Department of Tampa, Fla. A Quantum pumper, with a 1500 gpm PUC pump, is shown with permission of the San Francisco Airport Fire Department of San Francisco, Calif.

Last, but not least, the booth layout is rounded out with a Saber® pumper, featuring barrier doors, shown with assistance from the Auburn Fire Department of Auburn, Ala.

In addition, an environmentally friendly idle management technology, utilizing lithium ion batteries, is now available on all vehicles equipped with Command Zone electronics. These batteries allow vehicle systems to operate with the engine shut down for extended time periods, resulting in zero emissions.

FDIC visitors are invited to the Pierce booth on April 19 at 1:00 pm (today) for a product introduction presentation. And, on Friday at 11:00 am, Pierce will host the world premiere of the trailer for the much-anticipated Detroit firefighter documentary film BURN.
