Lexipol’s FireRescue1 honored by 2021 IAFF Media Awards
Lexipol’s FireRescue1, the leading news site for fire service leaders and professionals, has been honored with a first-place award for Best News Feature in the 2021 International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF) Media Awards. The awards program recognizes the work of fire service journalists and publications that seek to increase awareness of the challenges and successes of the profession and the role of the fire service in protecting the public.
FireRescue1 Senior Associate Editor Rachel Engel authored the winning article, ‘31 words’: Capt. Andrea Hall reflects on leading Inauguration Ceremonies’ Pledge of Allegiance. Engel focuses primarily on Capt. Hall’s role in the presidential inauguration, but also explores other angles of her story, including Hall’s barrier-breaking career as a Black female firefighter, her perspective on the pledge and her thoughts on the impact of COVID-19 on the industry. The result is a powerful profile of an impressive captain and her once-in-a-lifetime experience.
“We are excited to be recognized by these prestigious industry awards, especially for such an impactful story,” said FireRescue1 Editor-in-Chief Janelle Foskett. “We were honored to interview Capt. Hall and offer our audience insight into her historic career and participation in the Inauguration Ceremonies.”
