3M donates $30,000 to the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation

3M on Friday rewarded the heroic efforts of the fire community with a $30,000 donation to the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation (NFFF). The donation was presented at the Fire Rescue International Conference in Denver, CO, on behalf of 3M’s Visibility and Insulation Solutions business, as part of an ongoing Firefighter Appreciation Program. Since the inception of the Firefighter Appreciation Program, 3M has contributed over $85,000 in donations to honor fallen heroes and to provide resources to assist their survivors in rebuilding their lives.

The Firefighter Appreciation Program was established in February 2006 in an effort to give back to firefighters. For every proof of purchase on a National Fire Protection Agency (NFPA) compliant set of turn out gear with 3M™ Scotchlite™ Reflective Material fire coat trim, 3M donates a percentage of the proceeds to the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation. At the culmination of the program in 2006 3M raised $25,000, and an additional $30,000 was raised in 2007.

“It’s extremely rewarding to see the continued success of this program and how it has grown, thanks to the support from fire departments across the country,” said Jean Waller, market development manager for Scotchlite Reflective Material, 3M Occupational Health and Environmental Safety Division, who presented the donation. “3M has been providing U.S. fire services with Scotchlite reflective material products for more than 25 years and will continue to honor their courageous efforts through the Firefighter Appreciation Program.”

“The National Fallen Firefighters Foundation is very pleased to be working with 3M on such a powerful initiative,” said Chief Ronald Jon Siarnicki, Executive Director, National Fallen Firefighters Foundation. “3M has shown a dedicated commitment to help make the fire service community safer, and we thank them for this additional support for the NFFF and our fire service survivor programs.”

Scotchlite reflective material fire coat trim is a premium, high performing reflective component used by firefighters worldwide. The trims are used when manufacturing NFPA compliant turn out gear and help enhance the visibility of firefighters. The products are available in different formats such as sew on and pressure sensitive adhesives. They are also available in solid colors, or multicolored triple trim (red/orange or lime/yellow).
