Fire Commissioner Nicholas Scoppetta to Preside at 98th Annual FDNY Memorial Day Ceremony

Event honors members of the FDNY that have passed away in the previous year

Fire Commissioner Nicholas Scoppetta tomorrow will preside at the Fire Department’s 98th annual Memorial Day Ceremony at the Fireman’s Monument on Riverside Drive in Manhattan. This event honors the memories of those firefighters, EMT’s and Paramedics who have passed away during the previous year. This year, the Department will honor the memories of Firefighter Richard T. Sclafani and Lieutenants John G. Bellew and Curtis W. Meyran all of whom gave their lives in the line of duty in 2005 along with Firefighter Christian P. Engeldrum, who gave his life in the line of duty in 2004 while serving his country in Iraq. In addition, 13 members of the Department that passed away non line-of duty will also be honored. The Commissioner will be joined by hundreds of firefighters and family members at the event.
