Several Organizations Join Dallas Fire-Rescue for Fire Prevention Week

On October 12, 2005, DISD, Fireman’s Fund Insurance, and members of the Independent Insurance Agents of Dallas will join Dallas Fire-Rescue during Fire Prevention Week, observed during the month of October of every year. The goal of this national initiative is to reduce the high number of residential fires and fire fatalities through education and community awareness. This is also the start of our “Winter Warning” campaign, a local initiative whose goal is to reduce the high number of fire-related injuries/deaths that normally occur during the winter months.

Over 50 members of FFI and IIAD will volunteer their time with full support of their pertinent organizations. In addition, Fireman’s Fund will be donating over two thousand smoke detector batteries to benefit local residents. The volunteers will visit 11 DISD Elementary Schools in order to pass out fire prevention information along with smoke detector batteries to parents. A list of participating schools is attached.

Children 14 and under are at much higher risk of being killed or seriously burned in a residential fire. Therefore, parents and guardians of young children will be targeted in order to provide them with information on crucial pre-fire planning and preparation. Last year’s success is an encouraging sign that we are on the right track, so please join us for this crucial event and help save a life.
