Grant Funds Available for Kentucky’s Volunteer Fire Departments Applications to be submitted to Division of Forestry by June 17

FRANKFORT, KY – The Kentucky Division of Forestry (KDF) is currently accepting grant applications for the 2009 Volunteer Fire Assistance Grant Program. The objective of the program is to improve the capability and effectiveness of Kentucky’s rural volunteer fire departments to protect lives and property.

This will be accomplished through organizing, training, and equipping local firefighters for fire protection in rural areas, including communities of 10,000 persons or less. Funding for the grants range from $1,000 to $5,000 and will be awarded on a 50/50 matching basis.

The grantee must match the amount awarded by providing at least 50 percent of total project cost through cash reimbursement or in-kind service. Eligible items that can be purchased with grant funds include training materials, pumps, hoses, tanks, small fire suppression equipment and personal protective equipment (PPE) such as Nomex, fire shelters, gloves, lights, etc
