Host of firefighter podcast doesn’t let Parkinson’s slow him down

Scott Orr, host of “Code 3,” has endured three rounds of brain surgery, but still finds time to record the podcast twice a week

PRESCOTT, Ariz. — A host of a podcast made for firefighters doesn’t let his Parkinson’s disease stop him from doing the show, despite enduring three brain surgeries.

“Code 3” host Scott Orr, who was diagnosed with early-onset Parkinson’s disease in 2004, records the show twice a week, and has already interviewed many of the biggest names in the nation’s fire service community, such as the late Chief Alan Brunacini and Granite Mountain Hotshot crew sole survivor Brendan McDonough.

Orr said it was his wife, Rhonda, who encouraged him to start the podcast despite the fact that his voice has been impacted by the disease.

Less than a year later, “Code 3” is now downloaded by hundreds of fire service members a month, and it made FireRescue1’s list of top 10 podcasts for firefighters.
