SURFSIDE BEACH, S.C. — A firefighter with cerebral palsy was surprised with a new wheelchair.

WBTW reported that Roy Luther, 32, needed a new wheelchair that would allow him to stand up. The Raging Knights Firefighters Motorcycle Club donated $1,700 after seeing Luther’s story on Facebook.

A GoFundMe page was set up to help Luther buy a $15,000 power wheelchair/partial stander; over $5,000 was raised in one month. Firefighters from Connecticut also donated money to help Luther.

Luther is currently a public educator volunteer at Myrtle Beach Fire Department and Surfside Beach Fire.
