MOUNT HERMON, Va. — For more than 50 years, Mount Hermon Volunteer Fire and Rescue Inc. has been there for the community. Now, volunteers are hoping the community will be there for the fire department.

Mount Hermon needs to raise $1.4 million to build a larger, more modern fire station. “That’s a lot of stews,” said Assistant Chief Ray Earp.

The department has already begun clearing a three-acre site behind the station on Franklin Turnpike and hopes to begin construction early next year.
