Ky. firefighter killed after apparatus overturned and struck a house

WOOTEN, Ky. — Officials with the Kentucky Firefighters Association have confirmed the death of one firefighter in a crash in Leslie County.

Coon Creek Fire & Rescue firefighters responding to an ATV accident at approximately 10:00 p.m. on Oct. 28. As three firefighters were following an ambulance to the landing zone, their vehicle went off the roadway, overturned, and struck a house, WYMT reported.

Firefighter Regina Huffman had to be extricated from the vehicle. Huffman was transported to Mary Breckinridge ARH Hospital, where she died.

The driver of the fire apparatus, Austin Turner, and passenger Ben Barton were also transported to Mary Breckinridge ARH Hospital.

WHET and the Kentucky Firefighters Association stated that one of the injured firefighters was Huffman’s son.
