FDNY mourns off-duty death of firefighter

Firefighter Deo Lall Jr., 38, from Engine Company 153 died while off-duty

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Family, friends and the FDNY are mourning the death of a Staten Island firefighter who passed away while off-duty at the age of 38.

Deo Lall Jr ., of Stapleton-based Engine Co. 153, a 10-year veteran of the department, died on March 27, leaving behind a wife and two children.

A graduate of Port Richmond High School, the College of Staten Island and Hudson Area School of Radiologic Technology, Lall worked as a radiology technologist at Staten Island University Hospital before entering the FDNY Fire Academy in 2014, according to his obituary.

Known for his infectious sense of humor, Lall was a family man, devoted to his wife, Devon and their two sons, Deo III and Luca.

Lall’s extended family includes his sister, Denise Ullo, his brother-in-law, Michael; and nieces, Nicolina and Cristiana, the family obituary said.

A funeral was held Tuesday in St. Patrick’s R. C. Church, Richmond.
