SACRAMENTO, Calif. — It’s no surprise to hear of a firefighter rescuing animals. But what one firefighter did after rescuing an abandoned puppy is truly heartwarming.
Firefighter Mike Thawley was driving on a rainy day when he saw a sick puppy tied up on the side of the road. He picked her up and brought her back to the fire station to dry and clean her.
Although he later dropped off the puppy at an animal shelter, Thawley returned the next day to check on her. The two cuddled and took a short walk
Employees have dubbed the puppy as “Chunkie,” and if her owner cannot be found she’ll be available for adoption.
In a video posted by the shelter, it was noted that after his visit, Thawley returned home to discuss fostering Chunkie.
