MILLCREEK, Utah — Four people were injured, one critically, after a fire ravaged a Millcreek home Saturday afternoon.
Unified Fire Authority spokesman Cliff Burningham said when firefighters arrived at 2175 E. Fisher Lane just before 1 p.m., smoke and flames were coming out of the front of the home and bystanders told them a woman was trapped inside.
Firefighters entered the home and found the woman unconscious in the single-story home’s back bedroom. She was still unconscious when she was transported to University Medical Center, where she was listed in critical condition, Burningham said.
Three other people, including someone else inside the home, were injured because of the fire, but Burningham said he wasn’t certain how they were injured or if they had tried to enter the burning home to rescue the trapped woman.
Two of the people were treated on scene for smoke inhalation. The third was transported to the hospital in serious condition. The extent of his injuries wasn’t known.
Three dogs also in the home were rescued by firefighters. One was given oxygen at the scene, and all were expected to survive.
Burningham said firefighters were able to extinguish the two-alarm blaze pretty quickly, but it caused extensive damage to the living area of the home. Fire investigators estimated the blaze caused about $75,000 in damage.
The cause remained under investigation Saturday evening. Burningham did not know if the home had working smoke detectors.
