LA HABRA, Calif. — No charges will be filed against a Newport Beach firefighter in the death of his girlfriend’s Chihuahua, a police spokeswoman said.
According to police, firefighter Aaron Reed in October had just bathed the 6-pound dog and was trying to blow-dry it when the animal bit him in the face. Investigators believe he threw it to the ground.
“He reacted as probably I think a lot of people would,” Cindy Knapp, a spokeswoman for the La Habra Police Department, said Wednesday.
The Chihuahua, named Bella, suffered broken ribs; his girlfriend elected to have the dog euthanized, Knapp said.
