SOUTH PASADENA, Calif. — An elderly woman died Tuesday afternoon from injuries she sustained in an early morning fire in her home, officials said.
Flames were reported about 7:15 a.m. at a duplex in the 900 block of Monterey Road, said South Pasadena police Cpl. Brian Solinsky.
The victim, estimated to be in her 80s, was transported to Huntington Hospital in critical condition following the blaze, but succumbed to her injuries about six hours later, said South Pasadena Fire Department Battalion Chief Rick Mayhew.
The woman suffered multiple injuries, Mayhew said, and the exact cause of death was not immediately clear.
Firefighters had to cut through the to enter, and the fire was knocked down by 7:36a.m., Mayhew said.
The residence sustained about $100,000 in damage, Mayhew added, though the adjoined unit in the duplex was not harmed.
The cause of the fire is under investigation, Mayhew said.
