SACRAMENTO, Calif. — A father died after plunging back into a raging apartment fire from which he had already escaped in an effort to save his two infants, who also died in the blaze.
Firefighters found Antwane Johnson, 23, with his 18-month-old and 7-month-old children in the second-story apartment gutted in the fire Saturday. Their mother was in the apartment when the fire broke out and managed to escape.
“He died in a heroic effort,” said Christian Pebbles, spokesman for the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District.
