A smoky two-alarm fire destroyed an abandoned two-story Dogpatch house on Monday and sent flames shooting 30 feet into the sky above Potrero Hill.
No one was injured in the fire in the 1000 block of Tennessee Street. About 90 firefighters arrived at 5:25 p.m. to find the house “fully involved and about to collapse,” according to Lt. Ken Smith. Moments later, the structure fell down.
Al Henry, a cabinetmaker who was working in a warehouse next to the burning house, said he fled after a police officer banged on his door and told him to get out.
“The flames were shooting 30 feet over the roof, going straight up,” Henry said. “The house went really quick.”
The cause of the fire was under investigation, firefighters said.
