A teenage girl was fighting for her life last night after being hit by a fire engine.
The vehicle knocked down Donna Marie Corbett, 19, at Dunmurry Lane, West Belfast, at around 8.10pm.
It’s believed she suffered severe head injuries.
One source told the Daily Mirror: “It all happened very quickly and the guy driving the fire engine just couldn’t avoid her.
“He had no chance. It’s a terrible thing to have happened and the fire crew are really upset.”
It is understood another pal was almost hit but managed to get outof the way in time.
The girl’s family, from Colinmill in Poleglass, were last night keeping a bedside vigil in the Royal Victoria Hospital.
It is believed her family arrived at the scene shortly after the accident but were not allowed to get too close by police officers.
Sinn Fein councillor Angela Nelson said her thoughts were with thefamily and added: “I just hope and pray she pulls through.
“It must be a very difficult time for her family.”
A spokesman for the Fire and Rescue Service “The fire crew administered first aid at the scene before the paramedics arrived.”
He confirmed both they and the PSNI have launched investigations.
