VANCOUVER, Canada — A large fishing vessel about 40 metres in length caught fire Wednesday night on the Vancouver waterfront.
Dan Bates, spokesman for the Canadian Coast Guard, said the vessel appeared to be a large trawler. There were no injuries and it was not immediately clear what started the fire.
The Vancouver fire department and coast guard battled the fire on the vessel, which had been tied up to the dock before it was towed into Burrard Inlet, said Bates.
Bates said firefighters planned to let the flames die down although there was some concern about the amount of fuel on board and whether it would pollute the inlet.
Bates said Wednesday night that there were ''no pollution problems at the moment.’'
