LANCASTER, Wis. — Firefighters from three departments battled the heat while fighting an out-of-control blaze that started as a controlled burn on a farm near Lancaster Tuesday afternoon.
Two firefighters were treated at a hospital for heat exhaustion, while about 35 others were examined at the scene of the fire.
Stitzer firefighters initially set fire to a building at the Steve and Pat Lopes farm, northeast of Lancaster, as part of a controlled burn. The blaze spread to another building, prompting the firefighters to call two additional fire departments for assistance.
The fire destroyed the second building and damaged a nearby feed bunk and silo. Firefighters remained on the scene for five hours.
