MENLO PARK, Calif. — The Federal Emergency Management Agency has paid more than $2 million to the Menlo Park Fire Protection District as partial reimbursement for the cost of sending 100 rescue workers to help with Hurricane Katrina, the Menlo Park Fire Protection District announced Friday.
The fire district sponsors the California Urban Search and Rescue Task Force 3, one of 28 national teams that work for FEMA during national catastrophes such as the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks and the 2003 Space Shuttle Columbia disaster.
The task force submitted an operation and personnel costs claim for $3,589,805 to FEMA in December 2005. The agency recently reimbursed the task force 75 percent, or $2,192,577, of those costs, the fire district reported.
