NEW ORLEANS — A two-alarm fire, possibly set by vagrants, destroyed two vacant houses in the 7th Ward Tuesday.
But firefighters prevented the flames from spreading to three occupied dwellings, the New Orleans Fire Department said.
About 7 a.m., a passer-by called authorities about the fire at 1928 N. Robertson St., Capt. Terry Hardy Sr. said. He said firefighters found a one-story house on fire with flames spreading to another one-story house at 1926 N. Robertson between Pauger and Touro streets.
The fire was under control in about 20 minutes, but destroyed the houses.
The occupied houses that were saved are a double at 1426-28 Touro, a house at 1432 Touro, and a double at 1434-36 Touro.
Those three houses suffered superficial damage from heat.
Hardy said firefighters are investigating suspected “activity related to vagrant occupation.”
