CASHION, Okla. — The Cashion fire chief and a firefighter were recovering at home Wednesday from concussions suffered in a gas rig blast Tuesday afternoon southwest of Cashion.
Two injured rig workers’ conditions were unknown. Their names weren’t released.
Representatives of the federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration were at the site Wednesday. They were investigating how the four men were hurt by two explosions. Area OSHA Director Jim Brown said it will be a few days before a report is issued.
Cashion Police Chief Ronald Nelson said Fire Chief Danny Clark and firefighter Charles Kordis were treated for concussions and released from Mercy Medical Center on Tuesday night.
Matt Skinner, public information manager with the Oklahoma Corporation Commission, said commission workers inspected the site and found no problems with the well or rig. They turned the investigation over to OSHA and the state Labor Department.
The well is owned by Titan Partners Corp. The rig is owned by RDT. Neither company could be reached for comment.
Skinner said Tuesday the blast occurred as a result of a worker forgetting to hit a shutoff valve before doing a pressure test on the well.
