McCLURE, Penn.- A 59-year-old volunteer firefighter died while fighting a house fire early Saturday morning.
According to a statement released by the Mifflin County Office of Public Safety, Dennis K. Hayes, of McClure, responded to the fire at 6:30 a.m. in Decatur Township, Mifflin County, and was operating the pump on an engine when he suddenly stricken.
He was treated at the scene by emergency medical technicians and taken to the Lewistown Hospital where attempts to resuscitate him failed.
