A York City house fire caused by two children who were playing with matches has claimed the lives of the two children and a 57-year-old woman, police said.
York City police and the fire department reported to the blaze at 1017 E. Hay Street just after 9 p.m. last night.
When they arrived on the scene, they found the second floor of the house fully engulfed in flames. Two neighbors had been trying to rescue those who were trapped inside, the woman was in a third-floor bedroom and the children were trapped in a second-floor bedroom, police said.
A 22-year-old male neighbor received second-degree burns to his hands and face. He was treated for smoke inhalation at York Hospital and transferred to Johns Hopkins Bay View Burn Center in Baltimore, police said.
The 23-year-old mother of the deceased children, along with a 1-year-old male, escaped from the fire. She was treated for smoke and heat inhalation at York Hospital, police said.
The names of the deceased are Jordan Erhman, 5, Kyler Moyer, 2, and their great grandmother, Nancy Hull, 57.
A State Police fire marshal was called in to investigate the fire, and determined it was accidental in nature and caused by the two children playing with matches in the second-floor bedroom, police said.
