PRINCE GEORGE’S COUNTY, Md. — Prince George’s County fire officials say two people were burned and a dog was killed when a Christmas tree caught fire as it was being removed from a home.
Fire department spokesman Mark Brady says yesterday’s fire in Laurel is a reminder of the need to hydrate trees while indoors and to remove them before they become dried out.
Brady says the tree caught fire about 4 p.m. as it was being carried near a fireplace that had been in use. The blaze spread rapidly, causing $150,000 in damage to the home.
Brady says a family dog was found dead in an upper-level hallway. A woman who was removing the tree suffered burns on her hands; a firefighter suffered burns to his upper body.
