SHEBOYGAN, Wis. — Fire gutted a farmhouse early Thursday morning, killing three children who had been left home alone, authorities said.
The fire killed Cheyenne Groth, 13, Hunter Groth, 10, and Rae’ven Redinger, 5, said Sheriff’s Capt. Dave Adams.
The children’s mother, Tara Groth, 36, was working when the fire broke out before 5 a.m., Adams said. Rae’ven’s father, Donald Redinger, 36, who lived in the home, was out of town because his father had died, he said.
Firefighters found Hunter and Rae’ven dead in a bedroom, Adams said. Cheyenne was pronounced dead at a hospital.
Investigators began sifting through the ruins of the two-story brick house to try and determine the cause of the fire.
The fire happened in Holland, about 40 miles north of Milwaukee.
