NEW TAZEWELL, Tenn. — A New Tazewell woman charged with vehicular homicide following a headon collision that killed a Claiborne County volunteer firefighter last year will take her case to trial this summer.

Thelma Beth Trent, 31, was scheduled for a June 1 trial date on Tuesday in a hearing in Claiborne County Circuit Court, a district attorney general spokeswoman said.

Trent crossed the center line June 14 along Lone Mountain Road in a 1999 Ford pickup truck and slammed into an oncoming 2003 Chevrolet S14 driven by Andrew H. Harmon, 17, according to a Tennessee Highway Patrol report.

Harmon, a high school student, also served with the South Claiborne Volunteer Fire Department, Claiborne County Sheriff’s Office authorities said.

Trent was not injured.

Trent was arrested after the results of her toxicology test were returned. The specifics of the results were not immediately available.

A Claiborne County jail spokeswoman said Trent remained on house arrest.
