BATTLE MOUNTAIN, Nev. — Two firefighters suffered severe burns Saturday while battling a wildfire.
The Associated Press reported that Bart Negro and Damon Spring are being treated in the hospital after flames from the Sheep Creek fire, which was started when a helicopter crashed, overran their fire truck.
The two volunteer firefighters were airlifted to a hospital.
Lander County Manager Keith Westengard said Spring suffered burns on 14 percent of his body, while Negro suffered burns on 33 percent of his body.
The Sheep Creek fire has burned 89 square miles and was estimated Tuesday to be 50 percent contained.
