LEON VALLEY, Texas — Leon Valley Fire Department officials named a 2-year-old boy an honorary firefighter after he died from cancer earlier this month.

KENS5.com reported that Leon Valley crews responded to a medical emergency call and found Caden Dunn in distress. Dunn was treated at a hospital, but he later succumbed to his illness.

“Because of his courageous fight, his loving personality, his selfless acts that helped others, and because of his love for firetrucks, Caden Dunn has displayed all of the traits to be an honorary firefighter,” Fire Chief Luis Valdez said.

The department said it also plans to raise a ladder truck, issue him his own badge and give Dunn a final salute during his memorial service.

A GoFundMe page has been set up on the family’s behalf.
