SUWANNEE COUNTY, Fla. — Photos of a firefighter helping a visually impaired girl during a fire safety demonstration have gone viral.
11Alive.com reported that Suwannee County Fire and Rescue Capt. Chip Leathlean “took it upon himself” to make the girl feel special after noticing she was not engaged in the program.
“I understood that visually impaired ‘see’ with touch and I wanted to include her in part of it,” he said. “When she touched the nozzle, her face lit up, and so did mine.”
Her school later posted photos of their special moment, which later went viral.
“It was nothing about me,” Leathlean said. “It was all about the little girl.”
Leathlean said he was encouraged by the response of the photos posted online, according to the report.
“It reaffirmed positivity in my career and the impact that we have as first responders,” he said.
