Tigers’ pitcher gives Detroit Fire Dept. $50K

He gave $10,000 each to five fire stations to help buy new equipment

DETROIT — Joe Nathan wasn’t like most other kids. He never wanted to be a fireman or a policeman when he was younger.

“A baseball player,” the soon-to-be 40-year-old Tigers closer said of his childhood dreams. “But it was always a dream. That was my thing. But I knew plenty of my friends that were like ‘I wanna be a firefighter, policeman.’”

Just because he did not want to be one does not mean that Nathan does not respect the job done by both firefighters, police and other first responders. Just the opposite.
