HAMBDEN TOWNSHIP, Ohio — A firefighter was struck by a suspected drunk driver Saturday while driving to work, according to officials.

The Hambden Fire Department posted a photo of the firefighter’s personal vehicle on Facebook and said the firefighter was rear-ended at a red light and his vehicle was forced into the intersection, adding that the crash “could easily have ended in a tragedy.”

The firefighter suffered minor injuries in the crash.

“The driver of the other vehicle was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence. This is the second crash this week involving public safety personnel getting struck by alleged intoxicated drivers, as a GCSO deputy was also struck earlier this week,” the department said. “Please use this as a reminder to think before you choose to get behind the wheel impaired. You are not only putting yourself at risk, but you are putting everybody else on the road at risk as well.”

The driver was arrested on suspicion of operating a vehicle under the influence, according to FOX8.
