DAVIESS COUNTY, Ind. — A woman who was supposed to marry a firefighter that was killed by an alleged drunk driver posed for photos alone on their wedding day.
FOX59 reported that Jessica Padgett was supposed to marry firefighter Kendall Murphy on Sep. 29, 2018, but he was killed after another firefighter, who allegedly arrived at the scene with a reported blood-alcohol content of 0.21 percent, struck him with his vehicle.
Murphy’s mother, Katrina, asked photographer Mandi Knepp if she would hold a photoshoot for Padgett on the planned wedding day in an effort to help Padgett heal.
Knepp agreed, and on Sept. 29 Padgett posed in her wedding dress with Murphy’s belongings, including his helmet and uniform.
Community members also wrote Padgett letters at the request of her best friend, and she has enough to read one every day for the next six months.
FOX News reported that Murphy was honored by the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation, who described him as a “selfless man of God who loved spending time with his family and friends.”
