DALLAS — A fire department is mourning the loss of a veteran firefighter.

NBC DFW reported that Dallas Fire-Rescue firefighter David Walters died while off duty Friday, according to a Facebook post from the department.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and close friends as we wrap our arms around his wife and three children during this challenging time,” the post read. “You will be missed.”

Walters, a 19-year veteran of the department, served as a driver and engineer.

A GoFundMe was launched by the Krodle Foundation, a group that helps families of Dallas firefighters, to raise money for Walters’ wife and three sons.
