SELMA, Calif. — The Selma Fire Department announced the death of one of its firefighters, paralyzed during a training accident ten years ago.

The department stated that Firefighter-Paramedic Chris Nelson died on Feb. 8, the same day ten years ago when he was injured during training, FOX26 reported.

Nelson was wearing his firefighting gear and carrying a ladder when he fell approximately 12 feet and struck his head, WABC reported.

He was transported to Community Regional Medical Center and underwent several surgeries.

Last month Nelson joined Selma firefighters as the Fresno City College Fire Academy presented a new ladder truck in his name.
