CLINTON, Ohio — A 54-year-old Canton Fire Department division chief was killed Friday when his motorcycle went off the roadway and struck a guardrail, says the Ohio Highway Patrol.

Dead is Kerry Ball, who lived in Canal Fulton.

He was traveling southbound on North Lawrence Road north of Warwick Road on his 2014 Custom Motorcycle shortly before 7 p.m., the patrol said.

He was pronounced dead at the scene by the Summit County Medical Examiner.

The accident remains under investigation.

Ball was not wearing a helmet, the patrol said.

Alcohol is not a factor in the accident, the patrol said.

Ball joined the canton department in 1990 and was promoted to captain in March 2001 and to division chief in August 2007.

His latest assignment was supervising EMS, Operations, Training and Technical Rescues.

He is survived by his wife, Yvonne, sons Dylan and Eric and daughters Audra and Emily.

A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Queen of the Heavens Church in Green.

Calling hours will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Swigart Easterling funeral home in Canal Fulton.
