FDNY firefighter hurt after falling from ladder while on scene

Officials said the firefighter was in serious condition after falling 30 feet and injuring his leg and back

NEW YORK — An FDNY firefighter was seriously hurt Sunday after falling from a ladder while battling a blaze at a marijuana grow house.

NY Post reported that the unnamed firefighter, 38, fell 30 feet and injured his leg and back, according to officials.

The firefighter was transported to the hospital in serious, yet stable condition.

“He’s a very lucky individual,” FDNY commissioner Daniel Nigro said. “He is stable right now. He is conscious.”

Nigro said the firefighter “apparently lost his footing” while trying to get on a roof while firefighters battled a blaze that broke out on the third floor of a three-story residence. Officials said the building was being used as a grow house, and it is unknown if anyone was inside.

“[The fire] is under investigation right now,” Nigro said. “We do not yet have the cause. But I’m certain we will have a cause very soon as our fire marshals complete their investigation. So, I’d say once again, this firefighter had quite a fall. And although he has serious injuries, we’re very happy that he survived.”
